on 3 Cross-ice ---------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- "Weekly Recap" of Games Played (June 11th) Today's games did not count towards the standings. The teams had a lighter attitude and had a lot of fun. The teams geared up for the playoffs next week. Tune in for the champions. Enjoy the Stanley Cup Playoffs. ---------------------------------------------------------- "Weekly Recap" of Games Played (June 4th) Mite/Squirt (Canadiens/Rangers 10 - Bruins/Whalers 13): It a game that was initially a blow out...9 - 2 at half time...it turned into a close battle at the end. Many players were absent due to call-ups to the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. Thus, there were many trades made during the game to accommodate the absence of some of the players. PW/BT (Oilers 16 - Predators 12): The Oilers secured a place in the championship game with a well earned win. Heading into half time with a 12 - 3 lead, the game was all but won. However, the Predators goalie would have other thoughts and only gave up 4 goals in the second half. This gave the skaters a chance to rebound. With only 5 skaters, the Predators worked hard to cut the lead, but ran out of time and lost the game. PW/BT (North Stars 12 - Canucks 22): This was the closest 22 - 12 game of the year. Literally. For some reason, the puck would just not go in the net for the North Stars. For much of the game, they out shot the Canucks and outplayed them. However, the Canucks finished on their opportunities and won the game handily. PW/BT (Hurricanes 18 - Red Wings 12): This was a playoff game to see who earned a spot into the championship game. It was extremely tight and a tie game at half time. However, once the second half started, the Hurricanes just wanted it more. They found a way to overpower the Red Wings and take the victory. ---------------------------------------------------------- "Weekly Recap" of Games Played (May 21st) Mite/Squirt (Rangers/Canadiens 17 - Bruins/Whalers 17): Two weeks in a row!!!!! Another tie. Unlike last week where an overtime was played, this week we ran out of time. However, even without the overtime period. It was an exciting game. The lead changed hands continually. The Whalers/Bruins had to score a few goals in the last minute to tie it up. PW/BT (Oilers 18 - North Stars 15): Riding their big week from last week, the North Stars kept the game extremely close as they took on the second place Oilers. The Oilers were a little flat to start coming off of their first defeat of the year. In the end though, the Oilers got back on their feet and took another victory. PW/BT (Red Wings 19 - Predators 11): In the battle of the third and forth place teams, the Red Wings ran away with it. This victory keeps them within a point of the championship game. PW/BT (Canucks 22 - Hurricanes 20): UPSET!!!! The last place and winless Canucks take down the undefeated Hurricanes. It was a close game and had an extremely exciting ending. The Hurricanes had a 20 - 17 lead with two minutes to play. Feeling the pressure, they gave up three quick goals, and the score was tied with one minute to play. Then with a last gasp of effort, the Hurricanes reached down deep and scored two goals in the last 30 seconds to win it. ---------------------------------------------------------- "Weekly Recap" of Games Played (May 14th) Mite/Squirt (Rangers/Whalers 20 - Canadiens/Bruins 20): The Mite/Squirt game brought the first overtime game of the season. Neither team could score resulting in our first tie of the season. The kids battled hard and each team had leads. The score went back and forth. Ultimately, no one could win it. PW/BT (Hurricanes 22 - Oilers 15): In the battle between the two unbeaten teams, the Hurricanes found a way to win. It was tight through the first half of the game. However, the Hurricanes scored 5 goals in a 1:30 span to extend a lead that the Oilers could never over come. PW/BT (North Stars 21 - Predators 12): The winless North Stars got their first win of the spring. It was not close, as the North Stars confidence grew, so did their lead. PW/BT (Red Wings 13 - Canucks 13): The goalies took control of this game. The result was one of the lowest scoring games in league history. The two teams battled. Neither could find a way to score even in overtime. The Canucks earned their first point of the season, but still look for their first win. ---------------------------------------------------------- "Weekly Recap" of Games Played (May 7th) Mite/Squirt (Rangers/Bruins 16 - Canadiens/Whalers 13): The action was fairly quick. Goals were traded at a quick pace. The Canadiens/Whalers were tight at half time, but let the Rangers/Bruins pull out a little too far. 16 - 13 was a close contest though. Next week should be a toss up. PW/BT (Red Wings 23 - North Stars 20): Another close game today by the Red Wings and North Stars. The North Stars held the advantage early with a quick lead. they held on until about half time. The Red Wings owned the second half and pulled away too far for the Stars to respond. Even with a late flurry of goals, the North Stars came up short. PW/BT (Oilers 24 - Canucks 19): The Oilers are becoming the team to beat as they easily handled the Canucks. For the second week in a row, the Oilers' offense was not able to be contained. The Canucks fought hard and scored many goals in the second half. They pulled to within 3 goals late in the second half, but the Oilers defense stepped up and shut the door for good on the Canucks. PW/BT (Hurricanes 29 - Predators 16): The Hurricanes used touch passing and puck movement to overwhelm the Predators. A few trades were made at half time, but it still wasn't enough to help. The Predators just couldn't find their offensive rhythm. Hurricanes ran away with this one. ---------------------------------------------------------- "Weekly Recap" of Games Played (April 30th) Mite/Squirt (Whalers/Bruins 16 - Canadiens/Rangers 10): The Whalers and Bruins combo team pulled out the first win of the season in a hard fought game. With a few players missing, both teams had extra ice time and some had to double shift. We have to give the kids credit for their effort. With as tired as they got, they kept on battling. In the end, the Whalers/Bruins prevailed with a 16 - 10 win. PW/BT (Predators 12 - Canucks 10): This turned out to be the closest game of the day. With the Canucks losing 10 - 11 with 30 seconds left. They had a quick break to try and send the game into overtime. However, a missed opportunity went the other way and the Predators scored an important insurance goal to take the win and avoid the season's first overtime. PW/BT (Oilers 14 - Red Wings 10): The Oilers took advantage of an early surge. They took the lead and never looked back. There were many times where the Red Wings scored some goals in clusters to pull within a few goals. However, each time the Oilers would respond with a few goals of their own and keep a 4 - 5 goal buffer. PW/BT (Hurricanes 18 - North Stars 15): In the weeks last game, the teams traded leads early. At half time, the game was a 2 goal game. However, in the second half, the Hurricanes pulled out to a 16 - 9 lead. With 6 minutes left, the North Stars scored 6 goals to make it a nail biter. Unfortunately, the Hurricanes were able to put 2 more up on the board. These goals proved to be extremely important as they held the North Stars at bay. ·
