The Reason -- The defense has the better angle and is a shorter distance to the net than the forward. Most forwards will continue to skate wide and take themselves out of the play. What usually happens -- The forward ends up having to go through the defensemen for a second time, or the forwards panics and shoots from a bad angle on the defensemen.
